The Northwest Sports Association takes our volunteers very seriously, both as themselves and for our program. We know that volunteers give up their free time to help out with the program and its participants. We know that they are the very backbone of any organization. We are not just here to provide a great program for the youth of our community, we are also here to give the volunteers a great experience in exchange for their valuable time. This goes for veteran as well as new coaches. Have you not coached before? That's alright, we are here to support you learning how to be a great coach! To this end, we have partnered up with local community groups for our program, and several leaders in the world of coaching to bring you the training and tools you need! For our first season, with the exception of the Board of Directors, all of the volunteers for our organization are coaches. We do plan to change that in the future as we add more programs. For our coaches, here is the training you will receive:

Double-Goal Coaching

The NWSA and the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) are dedicated to teaching Double-Goal Coaching. This standard of coaching teaches that not only is winning an important goal, but the teaching of life goals is more important. With Double-Goal coaching, you will find that your players react in a more positive manner, and you work with parents to help teach them to be just as positive away from their sport.

Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Certification

The National Federation of State High School Associations offers the courses that are mandatory to coach in the state of Washington. First, they team up with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to teach coaches how to recognize concussions and what to do if they think a participant has received one. Next, the coaches are taught about SCA. Sudden Cardiac Arrest is the number one cause of death in the United States for student athletes during exercise.

Coaching Youth Sports and Cheer Coach Training

Finally, the NWSA utilizes the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) training specifically for our coaches. Coaches will learn what it takes to be a youth sports coach as well as specific training for Cheerleading.

We realize that there is a lot of training for the coaches. But after each coach finishes their certifications, they are more prepared to face the season ahead. A well planned season brings about the organization we are looking for during practices which will provide a safe and fun learning environment for our cheerleaders. But this is not all they are given, our coaches are given the tools they need to succeed. We also provide an online resource for coaches which allow them to reference several documents and videos to expand their knowledge.
